Beijing is one of the most fascinating cities in China. It’s full of history, culture and impressive architecture. Here are some of the top things to do in Beijing.

Forbidden City

The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace for nearly 500 years. It’s now a museum of artwork and artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Great Wall of China

The Great Wall is an easy trip from Beijing. The Chinese began building portions of the wall in the 7th century BC to keep invaders out. The completed structure once had 5,500 miles of walls, trenches and natural barriers.

Tiananmen Square

This square in the center of Beijing was home to famous political events and protests, including the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong in 1949. His remains are buried in the square.
